Encrypt Text and Files with a Password
AES-256-GCM right in the browser: encrypt a message or a file and send the recipient an ordinary HTML file that opens without the internet.
What the tool can do
- A modern scheme: authenticated AES-256-GCM, a key derived from the password via PBKDF2-SHA256 (600,000 iterations) and a random salt.
- Protected page: the message is saved as a single HTML file. The recipient opens it, enters the password and reads the text — neither our site nor the internet is needed.
- Encrypting files to .nok (the file name is hidden inside) and decrypting them back.
- A password strength estimate with an approximate brute-force time, and a random password generator.
- If the password is wrong or the data has been altered, decryption simply fails: tampering is easy to notice.
A forgotten password cannot be recovered: we have neither the key nor the data itself. Pass the password on through a different channel than the encrypted message.
Encryption is done with the browser's built-in facilities (Web Crypto API); no homemade cryptographic algorithms are used.
