Redact Data in PDF
Find phone numbers, emails, cards, names and other data in a document, or outline an area with the mouse. What is blacked out is removed from the file, not just hidden under a black rectangle.
What the tool can do
- Data search by ready-made patterns: email, phone numbers, bank cards (with checksum validation), IBAN, INN (validated), SNILS, Russian passport, names, dates, amounts, links. Plus your own words and regular expressions.
- True removal: pages with boxes are turned into images with the black rectangles baked in. Under a box there is neither text nor a hidden layer that could be selected and copied.
- The other pages of the document are not changed and keep their text.
- On the redacted pages, search and copying can be kept for text outside the boxes: an invisible text layer is placed over the image. A few characters right next to a box are excluded from the layer.
- Result verification: after assembly the file is read again, and you can see whether any redacted fragments or metadata remain in the text.
- File cleanup: metadata, bookmarks, attachments, comments, links and form fields do not end up in the result.
- Manual areas are drawn with the mouse, moved and resized. The box can be black, white or gray, with a caption such as “REDACTED”.
Findings are highlighted on the page: check them by eye before downloading. The position of words within a line is determined from the document's font with a small error, so a margin is left around what was found.
If a document consists of scans without a text layer, auto-search will find nothing: outline the areas with the mouse.
Redacted pages become images, so the file may get larger. You can reduce the size by choosing 150 dpi and the JPEG format.
The original file is not changed: you download a new copy.
