Roman Numerals: Converter and Calculator
Arabic numbers to Roman and back (up to 3,999,999), dates and centuries, arithmetic with Roman numerals and bulk replacement in text.
What the tool can do
- Conversion in both directions with a step-by-step breakdown: why 1994 is MCMXCIV.
- Strict validation of the notation: IIII and VX are rejected, and for a non-strict notation the correct one is shown.
- Numbers up to 3,999,999 with a bar over the letters, which multiplies the value by 1000.
- Dates in Roman notation (XX.II.MMXXVI and seven more variants), as well as the century and millennium of a year.
- Calculator: “XIV + IX × II” gives XXXII; Roman and Arabic numbers can be mixed.
- Replacement in text in both directions and a search for the Cyrillic Х, І, С, М that pass themselves off as Latin letters.
The Roman system has no zero, negative numbers or fractions, so for these the calculator shows only the Arabic result.
