Converting numbers between any bases from 2 to 36, two's complement, a bit-by-bit breakdown of floating-point numbers and text as Unicode codes.
What the tool can do
- Numbers of any length and fractions are converted exactly, not through approximate floating-point numbers.
- Two's complement for 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128 bits: click individual bits and watch how the signed and unsigned values change.
- IEEE 754 floating-point numbers bit by bit: sign, exponent and mantissa. You can see the exact decimal value, for example of 0.1.
- The neighboring representable numbers and the gap between them show why 0.1 + 0.2 is not equal to 0.3.
- Text as code points, UTF-8, UTF-16, JS escapes and HTML entities — and back from any of these notations.
- The size of a number in bits and bytes, the number of set bits, little-endian and big-endian byte order.
To check values in code, use the “IEEE-754 floating-point numbers” mode: it shows exactly what is stored in memory.
